Mónica García-Solache, MD, PhD, MSc
Mónica García-Solache, MD PhD MSc, is Assistant Professor of Medicine (Research) in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Research Scientist at Rhode Island Hospital. She obtained her medical degree from the School of Medicine from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), followed by a MSc at UNAM and a PhD in Developmental Genetics from the University of Cambridge, Darwin College. She trained as a microbiologist under the supervision of Dr. Arturo Casadevall and Dr. Louis B. Rice.
Her research interests include:
- The role of extracellular membrane-derived vesicles in antibiotic resistance, secretion and communication in Enterococci
- Evolution of antibiotic resistance in Gram-positive bacteria, mostly focused on the evolutionary trajectories of penicillin-binding proteins in different bacterial lineages
- Cell wall/cell-membrane communication
Keywords: Antibiotic resistance, bacterial evolution, bacterial cell wall
