Dear Newly Matched Brown Internal Medicine Interns:
Welcome! Welcome!! Welcome!!!
We are thrilled and elated to welcome you to our Internal Medicine Residency Programs here at Brown - now your Internal Medicine Residency Programs. As we learned who our incoming interns would be and reviewed the list of names made available to us on Thursday of Match Week, we each expressed a strong connection with and enthusiasm for each and every one of you. As individuals, you each bring unique strengths, talents, and energy to our program. As a group, you are one of the best classes to ever join us as resident colleagues.
Upon reviewing the match list, all of the program directors and staff first engaged in a brief indulgence of dance, compliments, congratulations and high fives. As we always do, however, we then quickly appreciated the fact that the match is a two way street. It is not only our rank list that brings you to us but also yours which indicates to us that you have chosen to come here for residency. With that choice comes an implied trust in the institution, the faculty, the program directors, and your resident colleagues - trust that your experience in medical education over the next few years will be rich and productive. We thank you sincerely for that trust and pledge to earn it every day.
This website was developed in order to provide you with information pertinent to your transition from senior medical student to medical internship through our orientation process. Whether you are relocating to Rhode Island or will continue to reside in the Providence area, you will find valuable information for your move to our programs. Contact information, schedule requests, housing information, lab coat and scrubs order forms, important dates and deadlines to remember, as well as the licensing, contracting and credentialing process will now be available at a single location and updated as needed and as more information becomes available. You will also hear from our Graduate Medical Education Office regarding the credentialing process. Finally, you will also hear from your program directors, on various matters of varying degrees of importance - mostly we just like to stay in touch.
As you prepare for beginning the next phase of your medical education and professional lives, remember not to lose sight of the fact that you are still students of medicine at your medical schools for the next couple of months. There are still experiences to gain, clinical rotations to complete, faculty from whom to seek guidance, and colleagues and friends whose company you may be parting with soon. By all means enjoy the remainder of your medical school careers. We hope that the remaining few months are enjoyable, productive, and exciting. Most of all, we hope that you will look back over the last four years and gain an appreciation for how much you have learned and feel the excitement that comes with the opportunity to put what you have learned into practice as interns and residents over the three years to come.
Once again, welcome to each and every one of you. We are excited to have you join us!
Sincerely,
Rachel Simmons, MD
