The GME office handles the licensing and employment process for all of our house staff in addition to providing many other services. This includes processing the following:

• House Officer's Contract
• Limited Medical License Registration for the State of Rhode Island
• Controlled Substance (Narcotic) Registration
• Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University ID application
• Parking
• Payroll including Direct Deposit
• Health Screening and Immunization
• Leave of Absence Management
• Employment Eligibility
• Visa
• BCLS/ACLS if needed
• Background Check
• National Provider Identifier
• Lifespan Computer Access
• Veteran's Administration Medical Center - Application is online; you will receive an email from VA staff.

Orientation

The GME office conducts a comprehensive 5-day Orientation Program relative to the hospital while each residency or fellowship program provides its own department orientation. You will receive information regarding this orientation in May.

This year the Department of Medicine will hold orientation activities beginning on Friday, June 10, 2022 through Thursday, June 16, 2022.

The Graduate Medical Education Orientation will be held from Friday, June 17 through Thursday, June 23, 2022. Your hire date is June 17, 2022 as you are paid for attending the GME orientation.

Your official start of clinical duties is Friday, June 24, 2022..
