Lonks, MD<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/brownmedicine.org\/3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/lonks-john-md-2017-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"260\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1065\" \/>John Richard Lonks, MD, is currently Director of Infectious Diseases Inpatient Consult Service at The Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.<\/p>\n<p>He is Chair of the Infection Control Committee and Hospital Epidemiologist at The Miriam Hospital and Co-chair of the Lifespan Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee for The Miriam Hospital, Rhode Island Hospital, Newport Hospital and Gateway Health.  Infection Control interests include reducing nosocomial <em>C. difficile<\/em>.  Currently he is studying prior antibiotic exposure before the development of nosocomial <em>C. difficile<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Lonks is Co-Director of the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases pathophysiology and anti-infective pharmacology course for the first-year medical students at the Warren Alpert Medical School.  He is interested in innovative ways of teaching and learning.<br \/>\nHe has explored the mechanism of pneumococcal resistance, particularly as it pertains to macrolide antibiotics.
